We are slowly turning into a nation of childless people, and it is showing.
According to the Census Bureau, 40% of US families lived with their own children under age 18 in 2021, down from 48% in 2001.
The pandemic, in many ways, showed what our priorities really were…
We prioritized grandma and grandpa over kids.
We prioritized teachers over kids.
We prioritized profits over kids.
We prioritized everything over kids. Nobody said, “we are resilient, we will get through this”. They all said, “kids are resilient”. Because they knew what was being done to kids was not right. It was immoral, selfish, bordering outright evil. But we still did it. We took away their friends, their schools, their sports, their graduations, their proms, their mental health, their physical health, their education, their earning potential…
In all of these cases, they were just an afterthought. After all, they were resilient. This was gut-wrenching to watch, but it was not entirely unexpected…
Here is a simple fact - the more money you have, the more say you have in how the country is run. Via lobbying, donations, etc., you just have more influence.
Here is another fact - the more money you have, the less likely that you will have children. Below is 2017 data, showing that there is almost a 2X gap between the lowest and highest income brackets in the birth rate. There are many reasons for this and the point of this piece is not to discuss them, but it is what it is. This is creating a situation in which increasingly, our country’s rich or elites are not prioritizing child-friendly policies.
For obvious reasons, young-ish left-leaning activists are not prioritizing child-friendly policies in their crusades either. In fact, to them, we should stop having kids because, well, climate change…
These demographic forces are slowly creating an environment that is increasingly hostile to kids.
We need everyone to care deeply about making sure we feed our babies. Instead, we are caring deeply about making sure that 10-year-old gender-fluid kid can use the bathroom he/she/they are the most comfortable in.
We need everyone to care deeply about making sure our kids get the best education and reach their full potential. Instead, we are caring deeply about teaching four-year-old kids about gender and sexual orientation.
We need everyone to care deeply about making sure kids are physically and mentally healthy. Instead, we are caring deeply about making sure they take a vaccine 99.9% of them don’t even need.
Here is another fun fact: Without those kids you didn’t care about, your money is worthless. Those kids the elite didn’t care about during the pandemic will be their doctors, nurses, plumbers, cooks, electricians, caregivers, etc. when they are in their senior years.
You can’t find a plumber to fix your overflowing toilet? That sucks. If only your generation had more kids…
That doctor who missed your diagnosis and now you have Stage 4 cancer? Sorry, she did medical school remotely for two years.
